Description

Abacá fibres (banana hemp, also known as “Manila hemp”), in earth-toned hues,
Traditional Bagobo textiles are highly valued for their design and fine weaving.
The two fabric panels are almost identical. The wide central band shows stylised ancestor figures in a squatting position. They are reminiscent of the figures of people and frogs on Neolithic Yang Shao clay jugs from China. In the body of one of the frog ancestors a human embryo can be recognized. The remaining frieze patterns show crocodile and spiral patterns.
