An “ulu” is an all-purpose knife traditionally used by Inuit, Iñupiat, Yupik, and Aleut women.

It is used for skinning and cutting up prey such as whales and seals, filleting fish and preparing and chopping up food. But also as a tool to make the traditional boots “kamik”, to cut hair or even to cut blocks of snow and ice that are needed to build an igloo.
