Description
cane framework (Scitamine stems), coated with bark cloth (from Couratari trees), painted with yellow ochre, reddish brown and green, helmet-shaped with see holes cut in, crowned by an anthropomorphic head with handle-shaped ears, a train of 270 cm on the back, painted with zigzag patterns, good condition;
coming from the Juri-Taboca or Tikuna Indians. Presumably depicting the big water snake (compare Lommel, 1960, plate 2 - 4). The animal masks are demonic depictions of the respective animal species.
