cloth, cowrie shells, leather, cylindrical base with openwork superstructure, embroidered with cowrie shells, strings of cowrie shells attached on the outside, crowned by a bird sculpture, leather charm enclosed, slightly dam.;
according to most authors, “banyani” was “shango’s” gentle sister. When queen of Oyo she relinquished her position to her tempestuous brother, whom she succeeded after his death. “Crowns of banyani” are placed on terracotta jars in “shango” shrines and are also worn by devotees of “banyani” during ceremonies.
