Description
terracotta, blackened, rest.
This is a 19th century work of a female potter called the “rival of Abatan” (AHDRC 0105199). The somewhat peculiar title was awarded to distinguish her from the Egbado master potter “Abatan”.
It is a lid of a ceremonial vessel known as “woota eyinle”, “vessel for the stones of eyinle”. The god “eyinle” or “erinle” is associated with hunting, rivers and healing leaves.
