Couple of figures
Description
the male figure, h: 46 cm, of heavy grained wood, the body coated with traditional tattoos carved in flat relief and accentuated by black paint, waistband of red cloth and plant fiber bast, moustache, chignon coiffure, originally completed by a comb (drilled hole for insertion), crack (neck); female figure, h: 44 cm, of light-coloured soft wood, accents with black paint (coiffure, eyes), wearing a bast skirt, age crack from hip to ear on the left side of the body, water spots, collection numbers below bases “52-9” male figure and “52-10” female figure (=deaccessioned Standford University Museum of Art);
elaborate work, quite rare ! Probably carved between 1930 - 1950, remittance work.
