The Isoko are an Edo-speaking, northern Niger Delta people of mixed Edo (Urhobo and Benin) and Igbo origins, living next to the Western Igbo and Urhobo. They share art institutions with both.
Most masks of this region were dedicated to “owu” or “oworu” water spirits who are known for conferring prosperity or disease, innovations or destruction.
