Description
wood, reddish brown patina, resting on twelve legs, eyelet for attachment of cord, slightly dam., minor missing part at the rim, cracks, abrasion of paint;
these bowls were named and it was said to be of highest honour to receive “kava” from such a vessel. “Kava” is a traditional drink consumed as ceremonial drink on religious and ritual occacions throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia. It is made of “kava” (Piper methysticum). Kava is sedating and is primarily consumed to relax without disrupting mental clarity.
