Description
wood, black patina, of oval form, deeply hollowed, filigree handle in shape of birds (upside down), shell-inlay, rising from rectangular base, slightly dam., abrasion.
Large feast bowls of that kind were used for “sugusugu” pudding made from mashed taro. The most important festival they were used in was the “maraufu” or boys puberty initiation.
