gilt silver alloy, with turquoise and coral coloured inlay, four parts, figure with eleven heads and 40 arms, rising from lotus pedestal, old age patina, abrasion;
the Bodhisattva “Avalokiteshvara” is the protective patron of Tibet, who is considered to be the embodiment of goodness and mercy. His Tibetan name literally means, “looking with clear eyes”. The large number of arms symbolizes his ability to ensure the well being of all living creatures in every situation. On his head he carries nine more Bodhisattva heads and the head of the Buddha “Amithaba”. Three of the Boddhishatva heads embody mercy with the suffering, anger over evil and joy over good.
