Description

wood, dark brown patina, brows of real hair, dottet scarification marks, plant fibre cord (for fixing the mask with the mouth), slightly dam., minor missing parts (snout, rim backside), on metal base;
the Mwera are a small ethnical group living in the south-eastern coastal back-country of Tanzania. Their works can only hardly be differentiated from masks and figures of the neighbouring Makonde.
