Description

gold, open worked corpus formed by fine grooved bands and concentric semi-circles, eyelets in pairs, minor missing parts in the cast, base;
fine grooved surface achieved by special technique with fine wax threads.
Among the Asante and certain neighboring Akan groups, gold jewellery and sculpture indicate wealth and status, but additionally may have religious or medicinal significance, offering spiritual or physical protection. Some gold beads and pendants may have had verbal equivalents in proverbs.


The object Zoomorphic pendant with the object ID 3041501 was part of the auction 84th Tribal Art Auction on November 5, 2016. The object with the lot number 241 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,600 with an asking price of EUR 2,000.
