Description

wood, slightly encrusted patina, polychrome paint, with projecting crest and prominent eyes arranged in concentrical rings, open mouth with visible teeth, min. dam., cracks, traces of abrasion;
the masks of the Winiama mainly depict bush spirits and spiritual beings who adopted animalic forms. The most frequently portrayed animals are antelope, buffalo, warthog, hornbill, hyaena and snake, at which all animals are extremely stylized in form.
