Description

wood, lusterless patina, polychrome paint, high, partly open worked headcrest with six hook-shaped projections on both sides, rep. (breakages on both sides), small missing parts, cracks, slight traces of abrasion;
the masks of the Winiama mainly depict bush spirits and spiritual beings who adopted animalic forms. The animals that occur most frequently are the antelope, buffalo, bush pig, hornbill, hyaena and the serpent, at which all animals are extremely stylized in form.


The object Zoomorphic mask with the object ID 3035445 was part of the auction 74th tribal art auction on September 7, 2013. The object with the lot number 62 achieved a sales price of EUR 3,500 with an asking price of EUR 2,500.
