Description

light brown wood, polychrome paint, carved with chin plug and a high towering headcrest, round eyes with concentrical rings, diamond-shaped mouth with long teeth, pierced around the rim, rep. (crest), min. dam., slight traces of abrasion;
the masks of the Winiama mainly depict bush spirits and spiritual beings who adopted animalic forms. The most frequently portrayed animals are antelope, buffalo, warthog, hornbill, hyaena and snake, at which all animals are extremely stylized in form.
