Description

wood, reddish brown paint, raffia,
The “mwana pwo” mask represents a primordial female ancerstor. It performs social dances to highlight the beauty, morality, and abilities associated with women.

In our opinion, this mask is an example of “transitional art”, a work that has already been made for sale to a Western audience.

The object Young maiden mask “mwana pwo” with the object ID 3049428 was last part of the auction 99th Auction at November 12, 2022 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 30 achieved a sales price of EUR 400.
