In 1974 Laurenty attributed six of these phallic whistles either to the Pende or the Songe. Pende whistles were played on occasion of the building of a chief’s ritual house. According to Sousberghe they have been played in battle.

The object Whistle with the object ID 3043720 was last part of the auction 89th Tribal Art Auction at July 7, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 378 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,000.
