Whistle

Cameroon Grassfields, Bamenda
sold EUR 950
Provenance
John & Nicole Dintenfass, New York, USA
Size
H: 28 cm
H: 11.0 inch

Description

wood, shiny dark brown patina, fine cracks, slight traces of abrasion;
the general structure of this whistle assumes the form of a stylized human figure. Although the swelling forms that top the whistle may suggest the horns of a bush cow, they probably depict a style of prestige cap commonly worn by men in the Grassfield region. The rest of the figure is reduced to geometric forms.
