This mask, with its aggressive expression and sharp-pointed teeth, is owned by the warrior society “mugongo”.

To become a member of this society, the young men must be circumcised and go through several stages of initiation, each with its own type of mask.

Present mask belongs to the “ibuku” initiation stage and may only be worn by warriors that have already killed and decapitated an enemy in battle.
