Description

mangrove wood, brown patina, painted with red, white and black pigment, oval compartment in the centre decorated with flying fox figures in bas-relief, geometrical patterns running around the rim, the stylized face on top depicting a stingray “puru”, pierced rim for attachment of decorating tufts of sago leaf strips, carved handle backside, slightly dam., missing parts at the rim (above all right hand side and on top), rep., abrasion of paint


The object War shield with the object ID 3036992 was part of the auction 77th tribal art auction on June 28, 2014. The object with the lot number 39 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,600 with an asking price of EUR 1,500.
