Description

fired clay, blackish coating, polished, separate worked stopper modelled with human head, rep. (breakages), slight traces of abrasion;
the Chokwe have absorbed many European objects such as chairs and teapots that they have reinterpreted according to their own notions. Among the Chokwe both men and women pot but using different techniques. Water containers such as this, incorporating human forms, are made only by men.


The object Vessel with the object ID 3041916 was part of the auction 85th Tribal Art Auction on March 4, 2017. The object with the lot number 364 achieved a sales price of EUR 650 with an asking price of EUR 400.
