terracotta, remains of black paint, cracked surface structure

Terracottas of this type were discovered during construction work in Calabar, in areas which, according to tradition, were burial and sacrificial sites. In and around Calabar have lived for centuries the Qua clans, descended from the Ejagham in the hinterland.
