Description

wood, brown patina, red and white pigment, round crossbars, carved with anthropomorphic heads on either side, one object upholstered and coated with red fabric, slightly dam., minor missing parts, cracks;
these masks were worn diagonally across the nape. They depict “Hébiosso - Achtina”, who is responsible for a good harvest, rain and lightning but who acts as judge as well, by punishing evil doers with deathly strokes of lightning.


The object Two post-shaped masks with the object ID 3032128 was part of the auction 71st tribal art auction on November 24, 2012. The object with the lot number 204 achieved a sales price of EUR 350 with an asking price of EUR 300.
