Description

wood, black paint, seed capsules, red dyed goats hair, a) standing figure with a face tattoo, representing a warrior, which is documented by attributes like the severed head, the sword “dao” in the right hand and the headdress decorated with wild boar tusks;b) squatting figure, crack/ rep., both figures showing sacrificial traces

These statues were made to recall eminent men or make their owners prestige and authority visible. They were kept inside a dwelling or, more often, a “morung”, the house of the clans men, for decorative purposes.
