Description

wood, brown patina, black paint, string of cowrie snails, attrited facial features, min. dam., fissures, slight traces of abrasion, on base;
alike the “ibeji” figures of the Yoruba, the “venavi” figures were carved for deceased twins or triplets. They serve as abode for the spirit of the deceased. The Ewe women used to care for them, they were fed, washed and caressed.


The object Twin figure “venavi” with the object ID 3033855 was last part of the auction 71st tribal art auction at November 24, 2012 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 202 achieved a sales price of EUR 600.
