a) elaborately crafted “mamuli” ear ornament, h: 7.3 cm
b) “mamuli” ear ornament, h: 6 cm, on chain (l: 31 cm)
“Mamuli” were part of the exchange of gifts before weddings. They were worn by women, but also occasionally by men, who attached them to their head covers, or wore them on a chain around their necks. Many were simply stored as part of the family’s “adat” treasures, to be brought out only on special occasions.
