The Mbundu (Ovimbundu) homeland is centered on the Benguela Plateau, bordering to the east on Chokwe land. Their art works are heavily influenced by these neighbours.

Masks are not known but their sculptures are mainly known by their pipes and staffs with female heads or figures which depict “nana yakoma”, the guardian of the holy fire - sacred objects of the old Ovimbundu chiefs.


The object Three staff finials with the object ID 3052001 was part of the auction Auction 104 on April 12, 2025. The object with the lot number 384 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,800 with an asking price of EUR 1,000.
