This mask belongs to the “Panji cycle” with stories from the kingdom of Janggala. and is probably a depiction of crown prince “Raden Panji Asmarabangun”. The main story of the performances is a love story about him and princess “Candra Kirana” of Kediri. “Candra” was the incarnation of “Dewi Ratih” (Goddess of love) and “Panji” was an incarnation of “Kamajaya” (God of love).
