The cultural area of the Massim encompasses the Milne Bay at the southeastern tip of Papua New Guinea and several offshore island groups, including the Trobriand Islands, the d’Entrecasteaux Islands, and the Marshall Bennett Islands.

The Massim are known for their beautifully incised decorations, which are accentuated by the application of white pigment.
