Description

wood, matt brown patina, encrusted with clay, columnar legs, without feet emerging from a round base, striking massive shoulders, both arms in the upper part amalgamated with the body, crowned by an unusual small head, the face with projecting chin, elevated brows and pointed mouth creating a somehow “smug” expression, slightly dam., missing parts through insect caused damage (left hand, neck), cracks, abrasion of paint, base;
small ethnic group in northeastern Ghana. Little is known about their artistic carving tradition in this little investigated large area along the borders of Burkina Faso, Ghana and the Côte d’Ivoire.
