Description

wood, middle brown patina, waisted trunk, elongated limbs, a short and strong neck supporting a broad head with a flattened triangular facial plane and reduced facial features, dam., long fissures, traces of insect caused damage (above all the right leg), missing parts (both heels), encrusted patina with traces of white pigment in some areas, socle;
in recent times the “Mamprusi” are mentioned as probable creators of this kind of figures, which show a rather unique style of carving, which is definitely different from that of the Moba. They live in the northeastern Ghana and northern Togo. But this classification remains rather theoretical for the present, since this theroy is not sufficient investigated up to now.


The object Standing male figure with the object ID 3034339 was last part of the auction 72nd tribal art auction at March 9, 2013 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 325 achieved a sales price of EUR 800.
