Description
wood, blackish brown patina, oiled, crudely carved, the traces of the chisel recognizable, voluminous shoulders, of powerful and masculine appearance, carved with labret and long neck lobe, highly abstract facial features, slightly dam., cracks, on block-like base;
the Dogon place their figures on a number of altars, most of them dedicated to real or mythological ancestors.
