Description
wood, slightly shiny dark brown patina, typical posture, fine grooved coiffure, raised scarification marks, slightly dam., cracks, missing parts through insect caused damage (base), on pedestal;
the Baule belief that every man has a “partner in the hereafter” which is represented by “blolo bian” or “blolo bla” (= female version) figures. They are kept in the sleeping room, hidden from the eyes of public. In order to keep them well disposed, they receive sacrifical offerings, they are fed and caressed.
