Felix divides the mainland of Tanzania into eight style zones, assigning the Pare (together with the Shambaa, Mbugu, Zigua, Bondai, Kamba and others) to style zone V, “Northeast Tanzania along the border with Kenya”.
All groups in this region produce wooden and clay figurines, often wrapped in fabric or leather. They serve as visual teaching aids during initiations and are used in the practices of ritual healers and fortune tellers.
The object Standing figure with the object ID 3046750 was part of the auction 95th Tribal Art Auction on October 24, 2020. The object with the lot number 324 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,700 with an asking price of EUR 900.
