Description

wood, shiny black sacrificial patina, sticky in some areas, unusual facial features with conically protruding eyes and pointed mouth, dam., strongly marked by insect caused damage (above all sides and backside of the figure/legs fragmentary), missing part (superstructure), metal base.
The figure is covered with a thick coating of sacrificial materials. These sometimes consist of powdered charcoal mixed with black “sa” oil, used by the Dogon for cosmetic and ritual purposes.
