Description

wood, slightly encrusted brown patina, remains of pigments, a bulging belly framed by raised arms, the hands resting near the shoulders, head with facial scarifications and high forehead crest, fragmentary (left legs and parts of the left body half missing), min. dam., traces of insect caused damage and abrasion, base;
identifying Zombo sculpture entails uncertainty since few pieces have been collected in Zombo land proper and, even among the ones collected there, some were made by one of the neighbouring peoples such as the Yaka or another eastern or central Kongo group.
