Description

wood, slightly encrusted dark brown patina, a staff-like figure, showing an elongated trunk with clamp-like arranged arms carved in relief, pierced facial features are framed by halfcircular ears which are situated on the cheeks, crowned by a three-parted headgear, min. dam., small missing parts through insect caused damage, fine cracks, base;
in the 17th century the Chamba settled south of the Benue nearby the Jukun. Statuettes of the Chamba are quite rare. The staff-like “tauwa” protective figures can be found more frequently. Present figure presumably represents an ancestor.
