Description

wood, blackish brown patina, traces of kaolin, carrying a bowl on the head, characteristic features: form and posture of the body, c-shaped ears, arrow-shaped nose and labret in the lower lips, traces of treatment with sacrificial matters, slightly dam., minor missing parts (rim of the bowl), breakage (right lower arm), old place of repair (breakage body/legzone fixed with metal clamps), base;
presumably a depiction of “nommo”, wearing a wooden bowl on the head serving as protection of the sun and for eating as well. “Nommo” are called the eight messengers sent down to earth by the creator-god “amma” in order to generate the human race.
