Originally mostly female figures were used for ritual acts in the different secret societies in Mendeland such as “sande”, “njayei”, “humoi” or “yassi”.
They were used in initiation as well as in divination rites, which served to correct mental confusion or improper conduct (violations of the laws of society) as well as to heal physical illnesses.
The object Standing female figure with the object ID 3045464 was last part of the auction 91 Tribal Art Auction at March 9, 2019 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 91 achieved a sales price of EUR 900.
