Description

wood, blackish brown patina, encrustations with clay, carved with superimposed figures on the back, slightly dam., missing parts, cracks.
The actual function of the figure can not be determined anymore. It might belong to the type of the “dege dal nda”, the so-called “sculptures of the terrace”. They are taken out of storage for the funerals of rich men and dressed and displayed on the rooftop terrace of the deceased. It might as well belong to the type of the “vageu” figures which were placed on family altars.


The object Standing female figure with the object ID 3043653 was last part of the auction 88th Tribal Art Auction at March 10, 2018 on Zemanek-Münster Auction house. The object with the lot number 160 achieved a sales price of EUR 2,000.
