Description
wood, dark brown patina, white and red pigment, miniature glass beads, elaborate high towering coiffure with horn-like lobes on both sides of the face, raised and deepened scarification marks, without feet rising from four-parted base, cracks, abrasion of paint, old place of repair (right plait), base;
the Atié (Akye) are an ethnic group settling in the eastern part of the Ivory Coast’s Akan territory, sometimes already considered to be part of the Lagoon Peoples. Figurative sculptures serve both, the veneration of ancestors and at the ceremonies of the “logbu” ritual.
