H: 37 cm
H: 14.6 inch

Description

wood, matt reddish brown and dark brown patina, fancy proportions (thin legs, compact upper part of the body, strong neck), breastbone and bladebones accentuated, disc-shaped flattend coiffure backside, slightly dam., cracks (forehead, neck);
for madagascan people the ancestors “razana” guarantee the existence of the living people, which is why most of their sculpture is created for graves. This surely was not the case with present figure, since there are no traces of weathering. She should have been placed inside and could well have been used in connection with fertility rites.
