Description

wood, middle brown patina, black paint in some areas, closed contours, tribe-typical facial features and dotted scarification marks, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion, base;
female statuettes carved in the classical Chokwe style are much rarer than male ones. This figure represents a mature and accomplished Chokwe woman whose body scarifications testify that she has undergone various forms of female initiation.
