Description

wood, reddish brown patina, block-like lower part of the body, legs without shape, just marked by a gap-like recess and indicated toes, slightly dam., cracks (belly, back of the head), minor missing parts through insect caused damage, metal plate;
figures of the Basikasingo often represent individual ancestors, called “bashumbu”. They were kept in special shrines under the authority and guardianship of a dominant lineage elder.
