Description
light brown wood, matt patina, black paint, remains of kaolin, strings with “millefiori” beads around the neck, fine grooved hairdo with middle parting, min. dam., small missing parts (base), cracks, scratches (face);
the Abron belong to the ethnical group of the Akan inhabiting the greater part of southern Ghana and parts of central Ivory Coast. In woodcarvings the geographical locations of the Baule in the west and the Ashanti in the east can easily be seen: the result is an interesting and sometimes qualitatively significant mixture of styles. This actual figure was probably used as a fertility figure.
