Description

wood, partly shiny black patina, a white string of miniature glassbeads around the hips, min. dam., cracks (back), slight traces of abrasion, feet supplemented, wooden socle;
sculptures of the Agni are quite rare, we don’t know much about them. In 1914, the renowned Liberian prophet William Harris arrived in the area of the Ivory Coast and through the fervour of his preaching induced whole populations to abandon their statues and traditional religious cults. As a consequence a lot of sculpture was destroyed.
