Description

wood, greyish brown patina, encrusted in some areas, of stylized form, board-shaped flattened shoulders with conical-shaped breasts, the arms elongated while the legs are extremely shortened, incised scarification marks, radial around the navel, slightly dam., minor missing parts (nose), traces of insect caused damage (right leg backside), on pedestal;
the Turka are a small ethnic group belonging to the Senufo. They have their homeland in southwestern Burkina Faso in the border region of of the Ivory Coast. Their rare figures are characterized by their own peculiar style which incorporates elements of the surrounding groups.
