Description

wood, partly encrusted brown patina, remains of pigments, arms and neck elongated, scarification marks on face and belly, min. dam., missing parts through insect caused damage, on base;
with a population of about one million people, the Tiv represent the most important ethnical group within northeast nigeria. They do not have any masks, but figures which are called “ihambe” and which have not been made since the beginning of the century and which can be distinguished in two styles “the post style” and “the realistic style”. This figure belongs to the latter.


The object Standing female figure with the object ID 3032305 was part of the auction 68th tribal art auction on March 3, 2012. The object with the lot number 184 achieved a sales price of EUR 1,000 with an asking price of EUR 800.
