Description

wood, slightly shiny reddish brown patina, symmetrical clear cut forms, prominent facial features, slender hands with splayed thumb, the massive bowl like an “apron” held in front of the body, legs cut above the knees, slightly dam., crack (back of the head), metal base;
for a stylistically comparable figure see Neyt, 2004, ill. 101. It was assigned to the Sankuru and Lubefu region. A further bowl-bearing figure of the Songe illustrated on p. 350, Morigi, 1980. Apart from that this motif can rather be found with the Luba and Hemba.
