Description

wood, reddish brown patina, black paint, camwood powder, kaolin, elaborate coiffure with small lobes on either side, abundant decorated shoes, adorned with arm and leg rings, raised scarification marks on face and body, the eyes accentuated by kaolin, collection number backside on the right shoe: “AJP1118”, slightly dam., cracks (back of the head, back), on wooden plate;
embodying the female ideal of Baule culture; elaborate coiffure and scarification marks are considered as signs of beauty.
